LipoDissolve is quickly becoming one of the most sought after procedures for treatment of stubborn areas of fat accumulation on the face and body. LipoDissolve is the trade name of a standardized protocol of products used in treating these fat deposits without surgery. The procedure involves multiple tiny injections of phosphatidylcholine mixed with deoxycholate (naturally found in the body) and B Vitamins into the fatty tissue. These substances act locally to break down fat into smaller fatty acid particles allowing it to be reabsorbed into the blood and lymphatic tissues and subsequently cleared from the body. Pain is minimal with the use of tiny needles. 3-5 treatments every 8 weeks is recommended to reach the desired effect.
There have been hundreds of studies on its safety for human use published in medical journals world-wide over a period of 50 years. LipoDissolve has been used in Europe and other countries since the 1990’s. The LipoDissolve protocol has been standardized by the American Society of Aesthetic LipoDissolve (ASAL) since 2001 and has been widely used by physicians in the United States since 2004. Despite its safety record, LipoDissolve is not considered “FDA Approved”. Therefore, the use of this protocol, as with many other cosmetic procedures used in aesthetic medicine, is considered “off label.”
