Do you feel sluggish and tired, suffer from headaches, bloating or joint pain? You may need a nutritional detox to rid your body of accumulated toxins from your environment, the food you are eating and your hectic lifestyle. A nutritional detox will provide a boost to your system and its essential functions. For example, a detox formula for adrenal support is perfect for those who are stressed and tired. A formula to relieve minor pain will help with your headaches, or nutritional support for joints will ease your joint pain. With these many options, Paradise Medspa works with you to determine which detox formula best fits your needs. An initial wellness consultation will alert Dr. Sarna of the difficulties your body may be having with properly detoxifying and removing toxic compounds. We calculate your personal toxin burden to encourage the efficiency of your body’s detoxification process.

If you’re curious as to whether detox is right for you, check out the toxin burden calculator. Our comprehensive questions will determine the detoxification process to suit your health profile. Getting clean and healthy is easy with a nutritional detox and its individualized support. It’s important to focus on finding out what’s prohibiting you from feeling your best. If you can get rid of the imbalances in your body that are inhibiting your wellness, then why suffer? Spring is detox time at Paradise Medspa and Wellness. Experience a Nutritional Detox and start feeling better today!

Laser skin care has come a long way. In the “old days” (1980’s-1990’s) we routinely preformed laser resurfacing treatments for wrinkles and skin laxity with ablative CO2 lasers. These treatments were extremely painful and therefore required general anesthesia or deep sedation and resulted in months of downtime due to the extended healing process. That being said, the results were wonderful. We could achieve amazing transformations with only 1 treatment, albeit the patient didn’t want to leave the house to show off their fresh new face for 3-6 months! So the pendulum swang in the opposite direction - toward non-ablative, “fractional”, laser treatments that work to remodel collagen from the inside-out. These treatments allow patients to get smoother, tighter skin with less pain (only topical numbing agents required) and less downtime (typically 2-4 days of redness). The trade-off here is that most patients require 4-6 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart to achieve adequate results and for patients over the age of 50, less predictable results. So in walks the latest in laser technology….the Fractional CO2 Laser! Finally, a laser that offers an ablative option (aggressive, impressive results) combined with fractional technology (less downtime). These lasers typically yield maximum results in only 1-3 treatments with as little as 4 days downtime. At last! An answer for those of us suffering from skin laxity, wrinkles, and discoloration!

Paradise Medspa and Wellness proudly offers both the non-ablative fractional laser treatment as well as the latest in Fractional Co2 technology! For younger patients looking to improve the quality of their skin texture, treat mild-to-moderate wrinkles, skin laxity or acne scars or for those who can’t afford to take any time out of their schedule for the healing process, we recommend a series of Affirm Multiplex Laser treatments. For patients over the age of 50 who may have more significant sun damge or skin laxity, we recommend the new SmartSkin CO2 Laser. Two great options giving us the versitility to meet the skin care needs of any patient.

Paradise Medspa & Wellness is excited to offer specialized treatments to patients suffering with cancer. Our lead aesthetician, Meredith Morgan, has received extensive training in dealing with the complex nature of skin conditions as they pertain to those currently battling the disease.

With the increasing rates of cancer diagnosis, Meredith believes it is crucial to stay updated and knowledgable of the evolving epidemic, and understand specific contraindications relating to cancer therapies. Most cancer therapies cause the skin to react negatively and many patients may not know how to handle these changes or where to turn for help.

Meredith’s training included education on providing the proper treatments associated with skin issues resulting from chemotherapy and radiation, as well as how to choose the appropriate products for use on such delicate skin. She is comfortable giving facials to cancer patients at any stage of their treatment so long as they received approval from their oncologist. Meredith is able to handle the delicate issues that keep cancer patients from seeking these types of services, such as the use of wigs and venous skin ports.

Let us provide a caring touch as a form of relief for you or someone you love today.

As an aesthetician, one of the most common complaints I hear are of adults struggling with acne. I have found that most did not experience acne as a teenager, and are now battling with it as an adult. In can be difficult to cope with, regardless of when someone struggles with it, and can even cause social anxiety and depression in an adult the same way it can in a teen. Adult acne affects 50% of adult women, and 25% of adult men at some time in their adult lives. The causes of adult acne are debatable, but potential causes include hormones, stress, cosmetics, toxins, and an increase of resistant bacteria. Stress and hormones tend to be the leading cause of acne in women. If you suffer from acne as an adult, it is important for you to know that you are not alone, and there is help. With proper skin care, a medical grade treatment plan, and a commitment from you and your provider, acne free skin can be achieved. Finding the path to clear skin is vital to your self esteem, and overall well-being. The most rewarding part of my job is working with someone to achieve clear skin, and achieving it! Your goal is my goal, and I will commit to providing the appropriate treatment, and offering my recommendations to combat adult acne.

Have you had a hankering to flaunt around in your skinny jeans? In next to no time, you could have the opportunity to slip them right back on! At Paradise Valley MedSpa, Dr. Sarna and 14 members of her staff have decided to undergo what some may deem the impossible! We are conducting an in-house study for losing weight by cutting out calories and using HCG injections. HCG is said to stimulate stored fat elimination and curb your appetite…which means your “vintage” skinny jeans can make a major comeback in your social life. The study will compare the typical 500 calorie diet versus a 1000 calorie First Line Therapy program with HCG injections added as an adjunct. Check back to the Paradise Valley MedSpa site in September to get the skinny on the latest and greatest weight-loss updates our staff members have to share with you. If all goes well HCG injections may be offered to the public!

Summer is a common time for patients to seek treatment for a condition called “Melasma” or dark, uneven skin color. This condition is primarily caused by hormonal fluctuations and is more often seen in women of childbearing age. It can be seen during pregnancy and is referred to as the “mask of pregnancy”. It is made worse by sun exposure, so the hot summer months here in Phoenix often cause flare ups. It is very important for patients who suffer from Melasma to use sunscreen on a daily basis, preferably one with UVA/UVB protection and an SPF of 30 or greater. They should also wear protective clothing (such as wide-brimmed hats) to avoid worsening of the condition. There are very few effective treatments available to treat Melasma. In the office, we use a special medicated mask treatment called Cosmelan. This process combines several powerful skin lighteners along with calming agents to decrease melanin production at the cellular level. This treatment has been quite successful with results lasting several years when combined with adequate sun protection., Effective at-home treatments include medications that contain the active ingredient called Hydroquinione. This has been a controversial but very effective topical agent for the treatment of Melasma and dark spots on the skin. If you think that you may be suffering from Melasma, please call our office to schedule an appointment with Dr. Weiss to discuss which treatment options would work best for you!

The advantages of using mineral makeup.

By Meredith Morgan

Mineral makeup is known for being hypoallergenic, as it does not contain any perfumes, talc, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil or preservatives. It consists of triple-milled minerals like zinc, titanium, gold, aluminum and magnesium that naturally refresh and rejuvenate the skin. This is the perfect make-up choice for the individual with sensitive skin, clogged pores or acne, as it won’t worsen the problem. Also, the zinc oxide protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Mineral makeup is also known for looking more natural on the skin, lasting longer than “tradition” makeup, and not enhancing the fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. And my favorite bonus of mineral makeup, is that it can be applied after any laser or chemical peel treatment. Minerals calm inflamed, red, itchy skin, and encourage faster healing. Following any treatment at Paradise, we offer our full Glo mineral makeup line which anyone one of our staff can apply for you, or you can have fun yourself, and explore the world of mineral makeup.
