Red Bumps Are OUT, Smooth Bikini Lines Are IN!

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

In case you didn’t notice, the temperature is really heating up under the hot desert sun. How does this seasonal shift affect you? It’s bikini weather! We all experience those unsightly red bumps around the bikini line. While red bumps might be more attractive than a forest where it shouldn’t be, we’re here to offer alternatives to tame your nether tresses.

Tips for shaving:

Make sure you always use a new razor. They tend to get dull after a few uses, so it’s important to regularly toss that old razor in the trash. Don’t be cheap! Be chic. Or should we say Schick? After all, your goal is a smooth bikini line, not a bump-covered one. Keeping old razors isn’t only unhygienic; you’re also more likely to experience ingrown hairs and irritation. Next, give your skin time to hydrate. Try using a wet towel or soaking in the tub to allow your pores to thoroughly open. The hair will be softer, and your skin will be properly prepped. Finally, protect your skin! Make sure you use a heavy cream, lotion or oil to moisturize the area. Lathering up with soap will only dry out your skin, so don’t do it! Try to shave over the area as little as possible. The more times you sweep over an area of your skin with a razor, the more likely your skin will become irritated. You’ll have to shave every few days to keep your bikini line in-check, so make sure you account for the extra time you’ll spend in the shower. If you still get ingrown hairs or little red bumps, you can hold a warm compress against the skin for about 10 minutes every day. The skin will soften, and the hair will naturally work its way out. In addition to that, you can use a corticosteroid to relieve any itching or an antibacterial ointment to prevent any potential infections in the area.

Tips for waxing:

Need a longer-lasting fix for your bikini area? One option is waxing. If you haven’t had your skin waxed before, it’s a good idea to seek professional assistance. Most people simply cannot properly do a waxing job in that area at home. There are countless sticky strips, and it can be extremely painful. What’s the benefit of waxing? Results from waxing can last three to eight weeks, but you have to let your hair grow to a quarter inch before you can wax again. While waxing can be easy, it’s important to remember that even the greatest professionals might miss ingrown hairs in the area.

Tips for laser hair removal:

You’ve been primping this area for years, maybe even decades. You might want to toss in the towel and accept the fate of an untamed bikini line, but alas, it’s swimsuit season! There is still one last option: Phoenix’s leader in laser hair removal —you guessed it…Paradise Medspa. Most people need five to six treatments before they achieve their desired results, but think about never having to shave or wax that area again! At Paradise Medspa we use the Cynosure Elite laser system for hair removal. This laser uses two separate wavelengths of light, allowing customization for each patient’s needs based on skin tone. The laser targets the growing hair follicle by heating it and damaging its blood supply so the hair cannot grow back. Your skin will need to be treated every four to six weeks to make sure each growth stage is successfully destroyed, leading to permanent hair reduction. The feeling you will experience during laser hair removal is compared to a series of rubber band snaps against the skin, and mild, temporary redness can occur after the treatment. But no more shaving or ingrown hairs, meaning no little red bumps!
